Is Cindy McCain Already Back on Pain-Killers?
I know that I am not the only one to notice that Cindy McCain was still sporting her cast during the Republican Convention.
This was strange, since she had a “wrist sprain” back on August 13, 2008. In this article by Ben Martin at Politico.com, he reports that she had been “given pain relief”:
“Overzealous supporter sends Cindy McCain to hospital with sore wrist”
August 13, 2008
Cindy McCain went to a Michigan hospital this afternoon after an exuberant supporter shook her hand hard enough to cause a minor sprain.
With her husband at a mid-day fundraiser in West Bloomfield, McCain was greeting donors when one offered a handshake so vigorous as to exacerbate an “existing carpal tunnel condition for which she has had previous surgeries,” according to Melissa Shuffield, her spokeswoman.
McCain left the fundraiser and visited a nearby hospital where she was x-rayed and given pain relief for what Shuffield called “a minor sprain.”
She is to return to the campaign trail tomorrow.
To understand Cindy McCain’s history of drug abuse, it might help to take a look at the diary of Tom Gosinski, who had worked for her in the AVMT, the American Voluntary Medical Team. Tom Gosinski noticed that Cindy McCain was taking pain-killers from shipments intended for the needy in other countries, as well as forging prescriptions using doctor’s DEA numbers. Here, he describes how Cindy’s parents finally confronted her about the problem:
October 2, 1992: Well, it is done. Last night Jim and Smitty confronted Cindy regarding her dependency to prescription drugs and she admitted to her addiction. I understand that she told the Hensleys her addiction was rooted in her unhappiness–her marriage–and that she took the pills to mask her depression. The Hensleys told Cindy they knew she had a problem because of her severe mood swings and her change in character. They also said her meanness towards others was not excusable and must stop. . . .
October 6, 1992: All shit hit the fan yesterday!
Jeri Johnson called Dr. Moffo to ask him not to fill anymore prescriptions for Cindy McCain. Dr. Moffo said he had not been filling any prescriptions for Cindy–it seems Cindy has been using Tom’s DEA number to obtain her drugs.
Cindy gave a number of excuses later for taking the pain-killers, but it seems like her first story was probably the most accurate. She was unhappy in her marriage and she believed the pain-killers helped her with her depression.
With all of the stress that Cindy McCain is going through now, has she been wearing her cast to justify her return to using pain-killers, when she is really taking them because she believes they help her cope with depression?
She herself describes the injury as very minor:
Cindy McCain appeared at her husband’s media availability with her right wrist and hand wrapped and wearing a blue sling decorated with a rhinestone pin.
“Many of you are wondering about Cindy’s new attire,” John McCain told the assembled press. “An individual shook her hand very vigorously at the last event we were at and she has a minor sprain,” he said, adding now “she will not have to shake so many hands.”
“I’m fine,” she added.
She later elaborated: “I’m absolutely fine. We had a great luncheon, fundraiser, and I shook hands with a very enthusiastic supporter and it got me the wrong way. But I’m absolutely great and this is a precautionary thing.”

I would hope that Cindy McCain could meet with a legitimate physician who could prescribe helpful anti-depressants for her depression. There is no evidence that Vicodin has a positive impact on depression. It is only a tool for escaping the realities of a stressful situation for a few hours at a time. When the Vicodin wears off, the problems are still there, requiring the intake of more Vicodin.
As a side-note, Cindy avoided any punishment for her stealing drugs and forging prescriptions, thanks to the clout of Senator John McCain and his attorneys. However, the physician that was writing prescriptions for Cindy McCain using other persons names, including Tom Gosinski’s, lost his medical license and has never practiced medicine again.
There are consequences for Cindy McCain’s actions. Even though she is spared any repercussions, the “little people” can have their careers destroyed.
